Ceiling Fixtures. Ceiling fixtures are designed in a way to provide general lighting to the entire kitchen. Typically they project down from the ceiling and are usually the biggest lighting piece found in the kitchen. These fixtures can also be hung over a breakfast nook or a kitchen table. There are two types of ceiling fixture; flush-mount ceiling fixture with the glass or diffuser touching the ceiling and semi-flush ceiling fixtures where the bowl projecting from the ceiling such that it hangs a couple of inches away with indirect light reflecting from the ceiling (think of it like an upside down umbrella).
For example a halogen bulb should always be housed in an enclosed lighting fixture to avoid the dangerous consequences of a burst halogen bulb. The fixture has to be evaluated on various other parameters like what type of task it is chosen for what is the kind of light distribution can be expected from it(given its shades shape color etc.) how does it effect the efficiency of the bulb and what kind of color distribution does it render. Hence choosing a lighting fixture purely on aesthetic criteria is not a judicious decision.
Common Benefits of Installing LED Light Fixtures Over Fluorescent Lights. With regards to the savings on LED fixtures you will be able to save up to 40 to 50 percent energy compared to fluorescent (FL) lighting. This is because these lights have 10 to 15 percent lower temperature than the FL so it consumes much less energy. Lighting on office establishments usually account to 30-40 percent of the operation bills. If you change all your lighting fixtures with LED that makes up the same value savings on the office operational cost.
